How to Remove Pedal Commander-A Step-by-Step Guide

    Aysel Yavuz

    Hey there, fellow car enthusiasts!

So, you’ve been rocking the Pedal Commander and having a blast with that added throttle response. However, there might be times when you want to revert to the stock settings after experiencing some of that extra pep a Pedal Commander puts your way. You may be selling your car, returning it to its stock configuration for warranty claims, taking it to the dealership inspections, or just being curious about the process. Whatever the reason, removing your Pedal Commander is a breeze! Let’s dive in and get it done together!

Step-by-Step Guide Removing Your Pedal Commander

    Gather Your Tools

You will not need much of this—just your hands and patience. Here's what you'll need:

    • Your car keys (obviously!)
    • A flashlight (if you’re working in a dimly lit area)

    Power Down Your Vehicle

Safety first! Be sure that your car is turned off. Remove the key from the ignition and wait a few minutes to ensure all systems are powered down. This avoids most electrical issues or possible accidental trips of sensors.

    Locate the Pedal Commander

The Pedal Commander permanently mounts to the throttle pedal assembly. Slide your seat back for more room and look under the dashboard. The Pedal Commander unit’s connectors are plugged into the pedal wiring harness.

    Disconnect the Pedal Commander

Unplug the Pedal Commander from the throttle pedal connector. This will be the connection point where the Pedal Commander plug joins the throttle pedal wiring. A tab or clip that one needs to press to release the connection is usually what is found.  Be firm but gentle when pressing the tab or clip. If it feels like it’s hung up, don’t force it. Sometimes just a wiggle will help disconnect it.

    Remove the Pedal Commander Unit

Next, slowly draw the Pedal Commander unit from the pedal assembly once the connection is unbolted. If additional zip ties or glues hold it in place, remove those as well. That’s all there is to it, plain and simple. Take your time here because you must remove all adhesives or zip ties without damaging the surrounding wires, connectors, and your vehicle’s interior. Should you get some resistance, double-check to see that all the clips and ties are disengaged.

    Reconnect the Stock Plug

    • Find the original connector on your car’s wiring harness. This should be located near your throttle pedal, where the Pedal Commander was installed.

    • Plug the stock connector back into the throttle pedal. It should click into place firmly. You would hear a slight “click,” indicating a solid connection. You have done great, and your car is ready for what lies ahead.

Make sure it’s seated all the way. You don’t want some loose connection to cause you problems later. Give it a little tug to make sure that it’s locked.

    Double-Check Everything

Before you take a well-deserved pat on the back, survey everything for a last time:

    • See that the stock connector locks.
    • Ensure that no wires have been pinched or are out of place.
    • Properly dispose of all removed zip ties or adhesives.

Take a minute or so longer to inspect the general vicinity. It’s always best to find out now rather than later. Knowing everything is clean and secure can set your mind at ease.

    Test Your Vehicle

Now it’s time to make sure everything is working according to routine. Start your vehicle and tap the throttle a few times to ensure it responds appropriately. If all feels good, congrats – you have successfully removed your Pedal Commander.

So, it may have seemed like it would be kind of a bear to pull your Pedal Commander out for a minute there, but as you’ve seen, it’s pretty straightforward. Now you know how to quickly and safely remove it, whether you’re getting your car ready to sell, ready to take it in for service, or just wanting to return to stock for a little while.

Store your Pedal Commander in a safe place to remember. You never know when you’ll want to reinstall it and have an excellent performance again.
