PBIR is located in Jupiter, FL, and it has been a hub for racing enthusiasts for decades. Initially opened in 1965 under the name Moroso Motorsports Park, PBIR host everything from drag races to road course events. Over the years, the venue underwent many upgrades and changes, becoming one of the key racetracks in the southeastern USA.
Uncertain Future for Southeast’s Racetrack
The racetrack offers a ¼-mile drag strip, a two-mile road course, and a karting track. The 13,000-square-foot clubhouse is great for gatherings, meets, exhibitions, and other automotive-related events outside the racing calendar. The Palm Beach International Raceway has been a versatile venue for all things motorsports.
After more than 50 years of hosting motorsports and automotive events, the PBIR’s future has become unclear in recent years. The track faced financial hiccups, which resulted in its closure back in April 2022. There are many more reasons besides the financial challenges—the COVID-19 pandemic is one, as well as the changing nature of motorsport events and local development pressures.
While the 2022 closure was a blow to the fans and local businesses that relied on the venue, the property listing brought back some hope.
What’s Next for PBIR?
But still, the future is uncertain. As much as we petrolheads love racetracks, the large size and location must make the property listing an attractive target for developers and building contractors. The land could be repurposed for other commercial or residential uses, and the listing clearly states that the buyer is free to decide not to keep the property as a racetrack.
The closure marks the end of an era for Florida’s automotive and motorsports scene, and the future is blurry. All eyes are on the sale now, while racing fans are holding their breath to see who steps in to get the venue. It may as well be a developer with a different vision—the fate of Palm Beach International Raceway is in the hands of those willing to invest.
